MILWAUKEE — Latino Arts Inc., on Milwaukee’s South Side, promotes Hispanic arts like painting and music.
The organization’s artistic director, Jacobo Lovo, said the art encompasses many different ethnicities, with the artists tracing their ancestry to countries across Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
But Lovo added that there are common themes in the art, such as an overarching focus on the importance of identity.
Lovo said National Hispanic Heritage Month is a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness about the organization’s work, which seeks to promote and preserve Latino identity on Milwaukee’s South Side.
He said art can be a powerful tool in bringing people of different backgrounds together. Lovo said that’s why all are welcome at Latino Arts Inc.
