State Sen. Dale Kooyenga announced this year he would not run for another term in the Wisconsin Senate.

Kooyenga (R-Brookfield) served in the State Assembly from 2011 - 2016, before being elected to the Senate in 2018.

Kooyenga said he decided to leave the legislature after turbulence about the state's redistricted electoral maps. The Governor's proposed maps, which moved him out of the district he serves, were originally adopted before being tossed out by the U.S. Supreme Court.

While Kooyenga is now eligible to run in his district again, he said he's opting to spend more time focusing on his work as a CPA, his career in the military as an Army Reservist, and his family.

But he did not rule out running for office again down the road, when his children are older.
