State Rep. Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) was first elected to the Assembly in 2018.
Despite being just 30-years old, Neubauer's colleagues in the Democratic caucus chose her to serve as the Assembly's Minority Leader.
Neubauer said she gained an interest in politics as a student and then while working as a legislative staffer for her predecessor.
"It is very helpful when running for office to be able to say, 'I have experience in this building. I know what it's like,'" Neubauer said.
Neubauer said she "felt that call" to run for office so she could be an advocate for young people and women in her district and around the state.
The Assembly Minority Leader said she believes staff positions, and recruiting more women to work in Capitol offices, is one way to boost the number of women running for office down the road.
