OAK CREEK, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS)— Residents at a senior living facility in Wisconsin got to celebrate memorial day a little early this year.

It was an early memorial day celebration for residents at the Waters of Oak Creek as they sat out on their decorated balconies awaiting a special parade.

“I am looking forward to the enthusiasm and I am hoping there are lots of kids because kids bring out the enthusiasm of holidays,” Army Veteran, Patricia Thompson said.

Well, residents like Patricia got their wish, and much much more from this parade. Believe it or not, the residents help put together this special parade in order to see families and friends and to celebrate a special weekend for a lot of those who live there. A lot of the residents that live there also happen to be Veterans.

“Especially for everything that we have all been though in the last couple moths with COVID, it’s changed the dynamic of the world so for the residents to be outside for today and be apart of something special, we are honoring our veterans who have sacrificed our lives for their country,” The Waters of Oak Creek Executive Director, Daniel Budreck said.

Patricia, is a resident at the facility and is also an army veteran who served as a nurse. She says Memorial Day is a day she holds close to her heart.

“I think of memorial day as a day to remember of all those souls that we couldn’t save, all those young kids that we couldn’t save they were young, right out of high school,” Thompson said.

Even though most residents were wearing masks, you could tell they were smiling ear to ear as they saw family members and loved ones driving by and honking.

“It made everybody happy and it’s been a long time since we have seen this many people, it’s very very nice,” A resident said.

It was a  touching moment for many, who wont have to celebrate yet another holiday without seeing the faces of their loved ones.
