GREENFIELD, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS)— The City of Greenfield Fire Rescue is connecting through social media with their community members.
Connecting through social media is allowing friends and family to keep in touch during a time of safer at home.
But what about connecting with your local fire department?
The friendly firefighters from the City of Greenfield Fire Rescue are showing their faces to their community in a virtual way during quarantine. This is their new way to engage during this time while everyone is at home.
“Along with the pain internally we recognize people had a major adjustment in their lives as well. So how could we bridge the engagement that we were use to through our traditional outreach and come up with some virtual that kept us all connected,” City of Greenfield Fire Rescue, Chief Jon Cohn said.
They are making videos and Facebook lives of cooking classes, reading books, doing workouts and much more throughout the week.
“We are just trying to bring some positivity into a very negative time. Hopefully kids can see that and it can bright their day. We are just trying to do some good,” City of Greenfield Fire Rescue, Lt. Zach Zimmer said.
Not only are these fun videos benefitting their own firefighters but they are making an impact on those around them. It is giving a nice 10-15 minute break in their days to connect, especially during a time when connecting is a challenge.
“We hope that we have a positive impact. Who knows maybe 15 or 20 years from now someone comes in and says hey I watched your videos and I want to be a firefighter,” Chief Cohn said.
