MILWAUKEE (SPECTRUM) -- Sunday church services may be on hold right now because of the coronavirus pandemic, but that doesn’t mean churches aren’t still serving our communities.

On Saturday, more than 30 volunteers from Milwaukee’s Christian Faith Fellowship church worked together to provide boxes of food and groceries to 500 families in need.

“Thousands of pounds of food, enough food to feed a family of four for at least three to four days,” said DJ Hines of Christian Faith Fellowship Church.

Hundreds of cars lined up at Destiny Plaza located at 7220 North 76th Street in Milwaukee Saturday to collect food.

“Destiny” Plaza couldn’t be a more fitting name in these times of uncertainty.

“I really appreciate them passing out the food and helping the community. It means not having to go and deal with the stores, it means helping other people and helping me,” said Bennie Lee-Benson of Milwaukee.

While it was difficult to see the people behind the masks, they were are all there for the same purpose-- to give with open arms.

“This is what the church is designed to do-- to help the people,” said Kathy Scott, volunteer.

“Milk, cheese, all of the essentials to feed your family, and our motto is we don’t serve anything we wouldn’t take home ourselves,” said Hines.

They were there to serve, spread the love, and provide for their community at a time when "love" is needed most.
