1. Wisconsin Supreme Court weighs in on ballot drop boxes, health orders

The Wisconsin Supreme Court released several more rulings Friday involving cases ranging from voting rights to the power of local health departments. Following one of the rulings, ballot drop boxes won't be allowed in Wisconsin following a 4-3 ruling from the Supreme Court. The decision sets the rules for the Aug. 9 primary and beyond.

2. Former Wisconsin Gov. Thompson endorses Michels in GOP race

Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson endorsed construction company co-owner Tim Michels for governor on Friday, after Thompson decided against a run earlier this year. Michels also won the backing of former President Donald Trump last month. Polls show Michels is in a tight primary race with former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch.

3. Facing pressure, Biden signs order on abortion access

President Joe Biden took executive action Friday to protect access to abortion as he faces mounting pressure from fellow Democrats to be more forceful on the subject after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade two weeks ago.

4. 'A tragedy for Japan and for all who knew him': Abe assassination stuns world leaders

Friday's shocking assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in one of the world's safest countries stunned leaders and drew condemnation, with Iran calling it an “act of terrorism" while European leaders slammed the “despicable" attack.

5. Iola car show celebrates 50 years, expects to bring 120,000 people to central Wisconsin

Jarold Smith doesn’t own the black and gold 1957 Plymouth Fury, but he’s more than happy to talk about it. A mechanic from Georgia, he built the dual carburetors on the car being shown at the Iola Car Show in central Wisconsin.

Wisconsin State Patrol Superintendent retires after 32-year career

After more than 3 decades on the job, July 8 marks the final day for Wisconsin State Patrol's highest ranking officer. 

Standing behind his famed Stetson, Wisconsin State Patrol Superintendent Tony Burrell said he is finally ready to hang up his hat.

"Been here 32 years ... to be in law enforcement for that long, for your entire career, it's pretty remarkable," he said about the journey that he began at just 22-years-old.
