MILWAUKEE — A new ad campaign hit airwaves Monday, aimed at encouraging Milwaukeeans to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
The $900,000 campaign features TV, radio, and print ads featuring prominent Milwaukee community members sharing their reasons for getting the vaccine. The campaign, put on through public health non-profit Healthy MKE, will specifically target residents on the city’s north and south sides which have been disproportionally impacted by the pandemic.
Nurse and COVID-19 survivor Laura Manriquez is one person being featured in the initiative. She says she felt proud to lend her voice to the important message.
“It is an honor to break down the barriers of misinformation, an honor to serve,” says Manriquez “Just trust me, it's okay. Just trust me we can do this together. If I didn’t believe this is a good thing to do I wouldn’t have gotten my immunizations.”
Manriquez says she hopes the ads send a message that getting a COVID-19 vaccine is safe and an important step in reducing the risk of developing the virus.
As of Sunday, the City of Milwaukee has seen more than 65,300 confirmed COVID-19 cases and more than 600 deaths related to the virus. Approximately 20.4% of citizens across Milwaukee County have fully been vaccinated, while 34.9% have received the first dose.
