MILWAUKEE (SPECTRUM NEWS)- A new book being released this month is helping families deal with the transition back to school in the era of COVID-19.

Dr. Emily Mazzulla is an assistant professor of clinical psychology at Marquette University. Mazzulla specializes in trauma and resilience: Skills she is putting to use helping families navigate returning to school.

Mazzulla has written a children’s storybook called "School in the Time of the Coronavirus." It profiles a fictional family as they plan to return to school in a time of social distancing and wearing masks. The book also features resilience tips families can use together. Mazzulla says allowing kids to view the situation through the lens of another family is valuable.

“They are not alone so hopefully reading a book like School in the Time of the Coronavirus they are able to look at the character Maria and say, 'Hey I have had some of those same thoughts and I am going to talk to my mom or my dad about this,'" says Mazzulla

"School in the Time of the Coronavirus" is available for purchase on Amazon.
