APPLETON, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) — In a special meeting Monday night the Appleton Area School District unveiled its plans for the upcoming school year.

Families in the Appleton Area School District will have an option for the upcoming school year. In the plan unveiled in Monday night’s meeting, all students will have a virtual option if that is then route they would like to go. From there, students in grades EC-4 will be in school five days a week in person. Meanwhile, students from 5th grade to 12th grade will be on a hybrid model of in person school two days a week and virtual three.

“No matter what model we are in it is important that we are engaging our students five days a week,” Appleton Area School District Superintendent Judy Baseman said.

The district said they will have plans to work with teachers parents and students for virtual learning and in person learning moving forward.

“We have staff members ebbed to a flexible learning model specific with canvas that focuses on connecting with students, engaging with students and advancing their learning towards essential learning,” Appleton Area School District Assistant Superintendent Steve Harrison said.

Masks will be required by all students and staff in school and at home daily health checks are required before coming to school. Parents are asked to fill out a questionnaire to determine which route they would like to take for their children for the school year so teachers and classrooms can be properly allocated.

“By the time we email this information out to our families, the complete prevention, they would see what the proposed models mean for their specific child,” Baseman said.

This whole proposal is contingent on public health and the district says they will make the final decision whether or not they will be in person in the coming weeks.
