MILWAUKEE, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) — US Army will host its first ever nationwide virtual recruiting event.
In a span of 72 hours the US Army is hoping to bring 10,000 new recruits to their ranks.
“We identified a need to really reach out and partner with all the units that are serving across the united states. And then try to look to ways we can capitalize on some of the recruiting shortfalls that happened during COVID 19,” Milwaukee recruiter, Lt. Col. Collin Keenan says.
Lt. Col. Keenan says the offices that serve Wisconsin, Northern Illinois and the UP will be open 24 hours from June 30th to July 1st to recruit as many new members as possible.
“We do have some stations that are getting creative and during the later night hours they will be doing a gaming tournament and using social media in that way to kind of interact with some individuals,” Keenan says.
Another add-on to recruiting with social media during this time, is an additional $2,000 for those who choose to sign up. They say it’s a way to make up for lost time due to COVID 19.
For new recruits, like Aniyah Chambers, who will soon be sent to training, being a part of the Army during this time is meaningful to her.
“I looked into all different military branches but the Army just fit with me. I looked into basic training and AIT training; I knew I would come back as a well versed human in my own community and that’s what we need in our world right now,” Chambers says.
So as she prepares to step into a new role, the Army hopes to bring in others like her.
