RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS)- A Sturtevant-based hair product manufacturer is seeing a major shift in business as more people choose to cut and trim hair at home as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Andis Company has been making hair clippers, trimmers, and pet grooming equipment for more than 95 years. Traditionally the company has catered to the professional market, selling to salons and barbershops. However, since COVID-19 they have seen a huge shift toward selling to the home consumer.

“We are used to shipping pallets. Just huge orders going out the door to Sally’s, Petsmart, Petco. Now, we are trying to ship out little boxes of clipper kits. It is a different model,” says Andis Co-CEO Laura Andis Bishop.

The company has had to work hard to keep up with the increased demand. After COVID-19 began, the company briefly chose to shut down their Sturtevant factory to protect worker safety. Now, they have reopened production and say it has been busy.

“We did all of our andis.com sales for 2019 in the month of April,” says Andis-Bishop.

Even as salons begin to reopen, Andis says they are continuing to see an increase in home customer orders.
