OSHKOSH, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- The number of women pursuing careers in the trades have dropped, but there is still hope for Emilie Wiltzius, who wants to become an electrician.

Wiltzius is currently an apprentice at Shea Electric in Oshkosh.

“Being the only woman in my class I can help other people who are struggling,” Wiltzius said.

Yes, she is the only woman.

This business runs in the family. Her grandpa is a retired carpenter, her dad was a Mason for 25 years, and her uncle is a plumber.

“One of the many things I like about Emilie is she is genuine, she brings her 'A' game every day, and she’s very humble,” Dan Shea, owner of Shea Electric said.

Though not many women are seeking a career in trade, Emilie wants women to know, “They can and it’s most definitely an option they can pursue.”

Emilie says that she doesn’t think her family could be more proud of her.
