MILWAUKEE (SPECTRUM NEWS) - An iconic dorm on the Marquette University campus is coming down, but not before raising more than $80,000 for an important program to help students.

The university decided to sell the room number signs from more than 300 rooms in McCormick Hall, with people having a chance to bid for them. Marquette also sold  limited edition can koozies online featuring McCormick. All together the program raised $82,000 for the Marquette Backpack Program.

“It created an opportunity to give back to an important current need on campus. Its called the backpack program that provides groceries to our students facing food insecurity. One in five of our students experiences that insecurity,.” Says Stacy Mitz with Marquette University.

The highest bid for a single room sign was over $500. McCormick Hall was built in 1967 and closed last year after a new building was built.
