MILWAUKEE, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) – Friday, June 7th, marks one year since 23-year old Milwaukee police officer Charles Irvine died in the line of duty.

He was killed during a pursuit that ended in a violent crash near 76th and Silver Spring Drive.

Milwaukee police unveiled a plaque in his honor at the crash site Friday afternoon.

Among city and community leaders who spoke at the unveiling, Wisconsin state senator Lena Taylor took to share why Officer Irvine will always be remembered not only in Milwaukee, but across the state

“The reason it was so important to me is because truly Officer Irvine is the example of community policing. When you have a child that says I lost my best friend, I need more of that. I love that we have commemorated this spot to Officer Irvine, I hope that we will make his standard that exists in the city of Milwaukee, god rest his soul,” said Senator Lena Taylor.

Police officers from Officer Irvine’s district number 4 say they will continue to protect and serve their community the way Irvine would be proud of.
