WEST ALLIS, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- West Allis is a city where everyone has a story to share. Now, a group of kindergarten and first grade students in town are working to capture those stories through a new podcast.

The podcast “Stories from 86th Street” was created by Franklin Elementary kindergarten and first grade teachers Beth O’Connor and Kory Schaefer. It is a way to help get the word out about what is happening in the community, while helping teach students about writing and the art of storytelling.

“We didn’t want it to be that we are going to write this and it goes back in our folder. How could we take true stories and share them with the greater world? What is relevant today? People are podcasting, books, newspaper articles,” says Beth O’Connor.

Each week students record new stories and share them via iTunes and Tune In, in hopes that the community and all of Wisconsin can gain a new perspective from some of the youngest podcasters.
