MILWAUKEE (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- The Hilton Milwaukee City Center has most of the amenities a grand, historic hotel traditionally has: a beautiful lobby; a sweeping staircase; a 3-year-old miniature Goldendoodle staffing the concierge desk.
Wait? What?!
That's right. For roughly three years now, Millie the Goldendoodle has roamed the lobby, greeting guests and providing countless smiles both to travelers and to the Hilton's staff.
"I tell her every time we get in the car when we park in the parking lot or ride our bike to work, I'll say, "Okay, I'm sharing you for the next eight hours,"" Rusty Dahler, the Hilton's "other" concierge told Spectrum News 1.
After her shift, Millie heads home with Dahler every night before coming right back to the Hilton the following morning. Now Instagram famous as "Millie at the Hilton," here, holiday travelers especially love seeing the rambunctious dog in the hallways, which helps to make the hotel feel a little more like home this time of year.
"It's been a lot faster days when Millie's here, a little slower when she's not here," longtime bellman Tim Rohr told Spectrum News 1. "Everybody wants to know where she is, but any time you have a slow day, pick up a ball, throw it around, it's really fun."
"It's the surprise you see on people's faces," Dahler added. "They'll be strolling around the hall or coming around the corner, and this dog zips by and they're like, "What is that?!" I've had people come up to the desk... because she can roam a bit on this floor, and people will come up carrying her going, "This dog-- I don't know whose it is-- she's just roaming around," and I'm like, "No, she works here, she knows the way around."
You can typically see Millie roaming the lobby Tuesday through Saturday at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center.
