WISCONSIN (SPECTRUM NEWS) — The man behind Cheeseheads: The Documentary is on a statewide tour throughout the summer to highlight the film.

To Wisconsinites across Milwaukee, a cheesehead is “just a piece of cheese that you put on your head,” “a true Wisconsinite” and “a Packer fan.” What exactly is a cheesehead?

“I joked with somebody once that defining what the word cheesehead means to a Wisconsinite is like trying to define what love means to anybody,” said filmmaker John Mitchell. “Pick your reason, that’s your reason, that’s what a cheesehead is.”

His film delves into what’s made here and who lives here: from badgers to cows, cheese to beer, Wisconsin’s history and its future.

“The Wisconsin residents who’ve seen it have been remarkably proud of it,” said Mitchell. “In the credits, I call it a love letter to Wisconsin and most people come up to me afterwards and say, ‘Yeah, it really is a love letter to Wisconsin.’”

Mitchell’s taking his film on a road-trip, including a stop at the Washburn, Wis. library to celebrate some of the state’s most beloved cheeseheads—the green and gold at Lambeau Field for special anniversary.

“The idea behind this tour this year was that Green Bay football team turns 100, and that’s a pretty amazing statistic for any sports franchise, so I thought, “Why not go around and celebrate that with my fellow cheeseheads by showing the movie around the state and the Midwest for that matter,” said Mitchell.
