GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — You know that whole first impressing thing?

Sal Frelick, apparently, is an expert.

The Milwaukee Brewers’ first-round pick in the 2021 draft spent all of four games with the team’s Arizona Complex League Brewers Gold affiliate before he was told to pack his bags and head to low-A North Carolina after going 7-for-15 (.466) at the plate.

His bags may not have been fully unpacked in the Tar Heel state — playing 16 games and hitting .437 with a homer, 12 RBI and an OPS of 1.085 — when he was told he should pack up and head to Wisconsin and the Brewers’ high-A team, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

And when he arrived Monday, the first impression specialist didn’t break stride.

“As soon as he walked in the door, he came straight to the office, shook my hand, introduced himself. So, there seems to be a maturity level to him,’’ said Rattlers manager Matt Erickson.

And while Erickson has had ample opportunities to pass along some sage advice to some of the Brewers’ best and brightest in his 10 years as Rattlers’ manager, he believes he will be able to save the gist of that speech this time.

“I’ve heard nothing but good things from Joe Ayrault, our low-A manager,’’ said Erickson of his newest outfielder. “That he’s low maintenance, that he’s a hard worker and that he competes. I said, 'If that’s the case and that’s the truth, don’t change a thing.' Sounds like he’s got a good foundation.’’

In his first go-round with the local media, Frelick gave away little, said all the proper things and well, made a good first impression for someone who is ascending up the Brewers’ organization like a helium balloon.

“Kind of play the same baseball I’ve been playing,’’ Frelick said of his approach to his third stop in the organization. “I think I kind of found out my brand of baseball is translating to the next level; putting the ball in play and putting pressure on the defense, and so I’m going to continue to do that and see how it works.’’

Frelick’s ability to quickly put up impressive numbers has also enabled him to ascend to the No. 2 position on the Brewers’ prospect list, a standing that has little impact on him.

“It’s cool,’’ he said. “But at the same time, in my life, I’ve been on both ends of rankings in general, on the low and on the high, and I know they don’t mean a lot. I’m just going to keep playing baseball and work on my development here. See where it takes me.”

Aside from his work at climbing the ladder in the Brewers’ system, he’s also taking classes to finish his business degree from Boston College, with an emphasis on leadership and marketing.

Frelick knows he will see better pitching at this level, and also knows another solid showing in the Rattlers’ final 18 games of the season could enable him to start next season at AA ball.

“You obviously want to build on that momentum,’’ he said. “But at the same time, at some point, you’re going to struggle. You’re going to fail. So, no matter what happens, I’m going to take it as a learning experience and just go from there. Obviously, I want to build off that momentum and keep it going, and that’s what I plan to do.”

Erickson said that after Frelick was selected with the 15th overall pick, he talked with Rattlers’ hitting coach Nick Stanley, who knows the assistant athletic director at Boston College.

“We called (Stanley) up and asked him about him, his demeanor and character, and (the assistant AD) had nothing but great things to say about him,’’ Erickson said. “He said that we’d love everything about him and … day one right now. We’ll wait and see what we’ve got.’’

What the Brewers appear to have is a promising prospect with all the qualities and abilities they could hope for, except for just one flaw fans will quickly take note of.

“I’m a Steelers fan,’’ he said.

Yeah, nobody’s perfect.
