MILWAUKEE — In a career spanning more than four decades calling hockey games for UW-Madison, including the past two for the women's team, Paul Braun's witnessed a lot of unbelievable moments on the ice.

But what he saw in this weekend's 2025 NCAA women's national championship game, including a last-minute penalty shot by Kirsten Simms to push it to overtime against Ohio State, followed by an overtime winner by Simms to bring another championship back to Madison, may be tough to top.

"That was absolutely one of the highlights of all the games I've done over the years," Braun said.

Now, having won yet another championship, Braun said the sky's the limit both for the Badgers and for the future of women's hockey overall across Wisconsin.

"The Badger women have won 8 national titles under Bob Johnson's son, Mark," Braun said. "Between Mark and his dad, they've coached over 1,000 victories at Wisconsin."
