EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — The water in the Palisades Fire burn area is safe to drink and use starting Friday, Los Angeles leaders announced Thursday.
Mayor Karen Bass kicked off the Thursday news conference tied to recovery efforts following the deadly Palisades Fire that sparked in January and caused devastation across the area.
"As of tomorrow, the do-not-drink order will be lifted for all standing structures in the Palisades," Bass said.
The mayor then introduced Janisse Quiñones, CEO and chief engineer of LADWP, to provide additional water-related updates regarding.
"We're proud to announce today that the water is safe to resume drinking and using through the Palisades, effective tomorrow, March 7," Quiñones said Thursday.
Bass also took time to highlight progress and emphasized the city's commitment to expediting the rebuilding process, and getting families back home and back to work as quickly and safely as possible.
"In the two months since the devastating fires broke out, we've made historic progress in rebuilding," she said. "Water and power have been restored and last week. we completed Phase 1 of the debris removal process — both months ahead of expectations. We're leading the fastest recovery effort in modern California history, and we won't stop until this community is made whole."
