One of the first rounds of severe weather this season swept across North Carolina Wednesday.
The line of storms produced an EF1 tornado in Union County, but for much of the rest of the state, the strong winds caught many people's attention.

- Avon - 94 mph
- Wrightsville Beach - 71 mph
- Havelock - 69 mph
- Harkers Island - 64 mph
- Frisco - 63 mph
- Burlington - 60 mph
- Jacksonville - 58 mph
- Wilmington - 55 mph
- Rocky Mount - 53 mph
- Winston-Salem - 48 mph
- Greensboro - 46 mph
- Asheville - 45 mph
- Greenville - 45 mph
- Raleigh-Durham - 45mph
- Charlotte - 44 mph
- Fayetteville - 44 mph
Gusty winds continue in parts of the state Thursday. A High Wind Warning is in effect until 7 p.m. for parts of western North Carolina where there is the possibility of gusts up to 60 mph.
