We are watching a round of wintry precipitation moving through Ohio that could cause some icy/slick spots for your Tuesday morning commute.

What You Need To Know

  • Nearly all of the state is under a Winter Weather Advisory overnight through Tuesday morning

  • Our Tuesday morning commute looks messy, with some icy spots possible early

  • A brief period of freezing rain/mix will change to all rain by midday

Most of Ohio is now under a Winter Weather Advisory through Tuesday morning. Many of the advisories will expire around noon.

Light freezing rain/drizzle/mix has developed and will become more widespread through the overnight hours and early Tuesday morning.

Temperatures be within a degree or two of freezing through early Tuesday morning, so precipitation may remain as freezing rain/mix during the rush hour.

Temperatures will be slow to climb through the morning, so freezing rain/mix/rain remains in the forecast until around noon.

After midday, we expect mainly a cold rain as highs push the upper 30s to lower 40s later in the day.

For your morning commute Tuesday, watch out for a light glaze of ice on exposed surfaces, especially bridges and overpasses. Our biggest concern will be ground and pavement temperatures being very cold. Even rainy conditions could become ice quickly in the morning and affect roadways.

This will not be a big ice event or storm with ice on power lines and trees. Most of the impacts will be on the roads and any surfaces not treated early in the day on Tuesday.

Nonetheless, we may end up with a coating of 0.1" to 0.2" of ice in parts of northern Ohio, with a light glaze up to 0.1" in central and southern parts of the state.

Be prepared for a slick morning commute Tuesday with icy spots and freezing rain/mix likely throughout the state until about noon. We'll expect all precipitation to become cold rain and roads to be wet as temperatures rise in the afternoon.
