Typically, the month of November is when we see a lot of change.

It's a time to transition from the warm to the cold, but this November, we started the month with very warm temperatures.

What You Need To Know

  • Average temperatures were slightly above normal this November

  • It was a drier month than average for the state

  • Cincinnati is the only place to have above average snowfall

  • Sunset times get later by Dec. 31

Columbus and Cleveland saw an afternoon high of 77 degrees on Nov. 5.

The warmest day of November for Cincinnati was Nov. 4 with 75 degrees.

Of course, these more summery temperatures will bring up the average temperature for the month.

However, we saw some colder, wintry temperatures from Nov. 11-20 with some highs in the 30s, but it was not enough to call it a cool or average month.

Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati all ended with slightly above average temperatures.

We were below average with rain for all three cities, so dry conditions are an issue for almost all of Ohio's 88 counties.

As of Dec. 1, almost 75% of the state is under "abnormally dry" conditions, and 33% of the state is under a moderate drought.

There wasn't the need for the snow shovel either.

The only spot in the entire state that had above average snowfall was Cincinnati.

1.2 inches of snow fell from Lake Michigan lake-effect snow bands on Nov. 11.

That put the Queen City over the top for average snowfall, but not even lake-effect snow has put Cleveland above average for November snow.

Cleveland should typically get 4.5 inches of snow but only picked up 1.8. Of course, the snowbelt saw higher amounts.

So what does a milder, drier, less-snowy November mean as we get into real winter?

Remember, we are in a La Niña pattern which points to a less-snow, more-rain and slightly milder winter.

According to the Climate Prediction Center, December may start wet and milder or closer to normal, but the middle of the month may bring in drier skies and cooler, below average temperatures.

If you are not looking forward to the snow and cold that December brings, here is some good news.

We end with sunset times that are later than the start of December!
