October 2021 will be a month to remember.
What You Need To Know
- There will be two rounds of rain/storms today
- Severe storms are possible later morning through the afternoon
- Damaging winds and tornadoes are possible
- We have had almost a year's worth of tornadoes in just October
In just one week Ohio had 17 tornadoes. The average for the entire year is 19.
We had nine tornadoes on Oct. 15 through the early morning hours of Oct. 16.
Northeast and east-central Ohio had eight on Thursday, Oct. 21.
And today we could add to that number.
Most of the state is under a marginal risk for severe weather. This is a level 1 out of 5. However, it is very mild with higher dew points. This could help storms become stronger as temperatures warm up into the 60s today.
Ahead of a cold front, we are looking at two rounds of showers and storms today. The first round from earlier this morning continues to move out into eastern Ohio, still producing some gusty winds and lightning. The second round will arrive this afternoon and could produce severe storms with damaging winds and tornadoes.
In addition, some of these "training" storms could produce locally heavy downpours, which could result in flooding. Training means storms coming one after another over the same area.
By this evening, the threat for severe weather will diminish.
Tuesday will be cool and breezy with spotty rain showers to the east.
