March is a season of big changes for Ohio. Average temperatures climb steadily throughout the month, and by the end of March, we can expect some pretty pleasant days (even if it still isn't most days).
What You Need To Know
- Average highs rise sharply this month
- Don't rule out snow just yet
- Days continue to get longer this month
Still, we're more than likely to see at least one round of snow and winter weather.
Cincinnati sees a sharp dropoff in snow chances as temperatures warm up, but 3.0 inches of snow for the month is still average, with 13 inches falling in 1968.
Columbus saw the most March snow for the month in 2008, picking up 21.8 inches. The average is 4.2 inches.
Cleveland takes the cake for the most March snow with an average of 12.6 inches and a monthly record of 30.4 inches in 2008.
Daily records for the three cities are 9.8 inches, 15.5 inches, and 10.8 inches respectively.
We can also see some crazy swings in temperatures. Records highs for all three cities are in the mid-80s and record lows are below zero.
In short, as the days get longer, we do manage to warm up a bit, especially toward the end of March. But don't count out the possibility of one more round of winter weather just yet!
