Over the next few weeks, green leaves will give way to brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows across Ohio.
The occasional pop of color can already be seen, but we're still weeks away from the peak color of the leaves in Ohio, especially in the southern half of the state.
Let's break it down by week.
Colors are becoming more visible, especially across Northern Ohio.
Reds, yellows, and oranges are mixing in with many still-green leaves on the trees, especially in the northern 1/3 of Ohio. Higher elevations in the primary show belt may see a bit more color already beginning to pop.
In the southern 2/3 of the state, a few colors are developing here and there but are still well away from their peak.
Colors in northern Ohio are getting more vibrant, but may still be short of peak. Still, the views are getting pretty good at this point!
More leaves are losing their chlorophyll as the length of daylight decreases, and temperatures continue to get cooler.
As the chlorophyll breaks down, the yellows, oranges, and reds will continue to become more visible. This week, your best colors are likely to be in the higher elevations of Northeast Ohio.
Colors are still patchy in southern Ohio, but more color will be noticeable. We're still about two weeks away from the most vibrant colors.
Peak colors are here across Northern Ohio! This is the week to find your favorite outdoor spot in Northern Ohio and enjoy the view.
Now is the time to start checking the forecast. A strong area of low pressure could cause strong winds that blow a lot of leaves off the trees. Try and get your "peeping" in ahead of any strong storms that could carry a lot of the colors away.
We're now past peak in Northern Ohio, but early in the week, vibrant colors should still be visible.
Here's your chance in the southern 2/3 of the state! Colors will be at their peak in southern Ohio, with beautiful colors visible.
Areas in Southwest Ohio, West-Central, and the rolling hills along the Ohio River will be excellent options for viewing this week.
