As of 11:49 p.m. Thursday, it will officially be Spring. In fact, this is the earliest we've welcomed Spring in over 100 years. Most years Spring officially arrives March 20 or 21.
As Earth orbits through space, it does so at a 23.5° tilt. In our summer, the Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward the sun and away in the winter. But there are two days where the Northern and Southern Hemispheres receive equal amounts of sunlight: the Vernal and Autumnal Equinoxes.
The Vernal (or March) Equinox welcomes Spring, and the Autumnal Equinox (in September) singals the beginning of Fall.
While in official context, Spring arrives in March, that doesn't mean we don't still see wintry weather, especially here in Ohio.
Between March 21 and March 31, Columbus on average will receive an additional 0.8" of snow. An additional inch of snow is average for the month of April, too. For Cincinnati, about a half inch of snow is average for April and in Cleveland, that amount goes up to 3.3". So odds are, we've got at least one more round of snow headed our way this year.
