BANGOR — The city of Bangor has imposed temporary weight limits on some roads.

To prevent wear and tear during spring temperatures, vehicles with a gross weight rating of 23,000 pounds or more will not be allowed on certain streets, including sections of Essex Street and Ohio Street.

The city said this restriction on heavy loads will remain in place unless the air temperature is 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below and there is no water showing in the cracks of the road.

Postings will be lifted on May 15, but the city said they could be lifted earlier if the weather conditions allow.

Heavy loads are limited on the following streets: Burleigh Road from the intersection with Bomarc Road to Essex Street; Church Road; Davis Road; Essex Street from the intersection with Lancaster Avenue to the City line; Finson Road; Kenduskeag Avenue from the intersection with Griffin Road to Broadway; Mt. Hope Avenue from the intersection with Howard Street to Route 2; and Ohio Street from the intersection with Griffin Road to the City line.

The city said the weight limit applies to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 23,000 lbs. or more, and there are exemptions for some vehicles on posted roads: including emergency vehicles, public utilities, municipal vehicles and home heating fuel delivery trucks.

The city said you can request a permit to cross a posted road from the Bangor Public Works Department by emailing public.works@bangormaine.gov or calling (207) 992-4500.
