COLUMBUS, Ohio — The 2025 Ohio Wildlife Legacy Stamp is now on sale, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife announced.
The stamp features a colorful photo of a hummingbird clearwing moth, taken by Roger Friedman of Westlake. Friedman’s photo was selected through a contest late last year.
“A hummingbird clearwing moth (Hemaris thysbe) is an important pollinator of native Ohio plants,” reads an ODNR press release. “This moth can be seen from April to September in fields, gardens, and meadows and it frequently visits bee balm flowers. Named for its resemblance to ruby-throated hummingbirds, this clear-winged pollinator is in the sphinx moth family.”
You’ll get the stamp, a sticker and a commemorative card for $15 and also receive a discount at several state park lodges.
Proceeds collected for these stamps go to conservation efforts. A majority goes to the Wildlife Diversity Fund, but $1 from each stamp also goes to the Southern Wings program, “which protects the overwintering habitats of Neotropical migratory birds that pass through Ohio.”
The Wildlife Diversity Fund “supports habitat restoration, wildlife research projects, educational materials, and efforts to conserve endangered and threatened species.”
If you’d like to see one of your photos on the stamp for next year, consider entering the contest this summer. The subject for next year’s stamp is shorebirds and wading birds.
