COLUMBUS, Ohio — Nine scientists at The Ohio State University were recently elected to the 2024 fellowship class of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
This is one of the most prestigious honors an American scientist can receive. Fellows are elected to the fellowship by their academic peers.
“Ohio State’s newly elected Fellows have devoted their professional lives to protecting health, investigating complex principles of physics, and analyzing social behavior and labor economics,” said Peter Mohler, executive vice president for research, innovation and knowledge. “The American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellowship is an important acknowledgment of the key role scientists play in solving critical problems and improving lives.”
There are 471 scientists in the 2024 fellowship class, spanning 24 fields across the scientific-world. They join more than 540 OSU scholars that have received this recognition since 1874.
From Ohio State, the nine scientists represent four colleges: Arts and Sciences; Food, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences; Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.
The 2024 fellows are:
- John Beacom, professor of astronomy and physics
- Pierluigi (Enrico) Bonello, professor of molecular and chemical ecology of trees in the Department of Plant Pathology
