SOUTH CAROLINA - Hurricane Helene was the seventh-costliest storm in the history of the United States. That was among the many statistics revealed in the National Hurricane Center Tropical Cyclone Report on Hurricane Helene.

According to the report, the storm that made landfall in September caused nearly eighty billion dollars in damage across the Southeast.

The report also details several statistics about the storm by state and county. In South Carolina alone, five counties saw wind gusts of at least 63 kt (more than 70 mph). Greenville was reported to have gotten the most rainfall at 21.66 inches. These factors contributed to downed trees and power lines that caused significant damage across South Carolina.

Residents have seen FEMA deadlines repeatedly pushed back as cleanup and restoration efforts continue.

Meanwhile, South Carolina reports there was a total of eighty-three million dollars in timber damage, 50 homes and businesses destroyed in Greenville County, and another 170 structures received major damage. In nearby Anderson County, 53 structures were destroyed with more than 600 suffering major damage.
