CINCINNATI — The National Weather Service in Wilmington confirmed a tornado touched down near the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) as a line of severe storms moved through the region Wednesday night.
The tornado traveled approximately 3.15 miles with peak winds of 105 mph.
It started in northeast Burlington in Boone County, Kentucky and ended in the west-southwest area of Villa Hills in the same county. The tornado spanned 90 yards wide according to NWS.
Meteorologists said video footage confirmed damage reported at the airport was a result of the tornado touchdown.
When it touched down west of KY-237, part of a roof was removed at an industrial site. It then moved northeast, uprooting several trees before crossing CVG. An industrial building at the airport sustained extensive wall and roof damage and a 747 moved five feet from the winds.
In a nearby parking garage flying debris damaged about a dozen cards.
NWS also observed additional tree damage and damage to HVAC systems on the northeast side of the airport before the tornado lifted.
“Severe weather that came through the area overnight caused damage to a building under construction on airport property. No one was injured," CVG Airport said in a statement.
No other major damage has been reported so far, according to the NWS.
