ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo.— Dr. Mike Dominguez will become the Francis Howell school district’s next superintendent, the district announced Tuesday. The district’s Board of Education approved Dominguez on March 13. His contract will begin July 1, unseating current Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Roumpos.
“I am thrilled to be joining the Francis Howell community and look forward to meeting with students, staff, families, and residents to hear their ideas and hopes for the future of the District,” Dominguez said in a statement. “Together, we will continue the District’s legacy of academic excellence and chart new paths for student learning so that our graduates are ready for the future.”
Dominguez has more than 30 years of educational experience, with more than 20 years in leadership. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership and a master’s in education administration from West Texas A&M University. He is the current Superintendent of Garden City Public Schools in Kansas. Dominguez is the former superintendent of a school in Texas, also working in charter school management.
Dominguez was a teacher and wrestling coach in Texas, working in school leadership roles for 12 years. Francis Howell officials say he’s a proponent of project-based learning, flipped classrooms and other innovative methods.
“Parents, staff, and stakeholders indicated they want a leader who prioritizes student growth and achievement,” FHSD Board President Adam Bertrand said. “They want someone with previous leadership experience, cultural competence, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence; someone who can deliver a clear vision, motivate and inspire staff, build trust, and bring the community together. Our firm belief is that Dr. Dominguez checks all these boxes and is exactly the right leader for the District’s next chapter.”
FHSD officials say Dominguez was selected after a nationwide search led by School Exec Connect. He will speak with Francis Howell staff and families during a Board meeting Thursday.
