COLUMBUS, Ohio — The City of Columbus on Thursday announced its partnership with Veo, a micromobility company, to give residents different types of transportation options.
The fleet will include electric scooters, bikes and pedal bikes. The first deployment will happen this Saturday with 500 vehicles across the city.
“The City of Columbus is excited to launch the Columbus and Central Ohio Shared Mobility Program with the introduction of Veo’s diverse fleet of e-scooters, e-bikes, and pedal bikes to provide more opportunities for equitable and sustainable transportation in our community,” said Director Kelly Scocco of the Department of Public Service. “The Veo devices offer convenient and comfortable options for residents of all ages and abilities to get around as part of our Shared Mobility Program that aligns with the goals of the city’s Bike Plus Plan, Climate Action Plan, Vision Zero Columbus, and LinkUS.”
The city and Veo said the flight is designed to help accomodate a wide range of riders, depending on their mobility needs and trips they're taking. The city said 50% of Veo's fleet will have seated vehicles to help make longer distances more comfortable for travel.
Here are the types of vehicles included in the fleet:
- Astro standing scooter
- Cosmo seated scooter
- Halo pedal-assist e-bike
- Halo pedal bike
- Apollo two-seated class two e-bike
They'll be for riders 18 and older and must download the Veo app to use, which is free to download. Riders will need scan the QR code on their chosen type of transportation, pay $1 to unlock the vehicle and get going on their trip. Riders need to pay 25 to 50 cents per minute to ride, but rates vary depending on the vehicle type.
Riders must park according to instructions, which is a designated zone, a bike rack or along a sidewalk perimeter.
"Columbus’ dedication to accessible, sustainable transportation makes it the ideal place for Veo’s most diverse city fleet yet," said Jeff Hoover, Veo's director of Government Partnerships. "With a mix of vehicles, we’re making sure there’s something for everyone—whether it's a nurse opting for a seated scooter after a long shift, a college student headed to class, or a parent using an e-bike to make it home for dinner. Veo looks forward to working alongside the City to ensure this program supports Columbus’ transportation goals and enhances mobility for years to come."
