OHIO — Warmer temperatures have many thinking of spring, or even summer, and about how to get outside.
ServeOhio Day falls on June 21 this year, the summer solstice and the day offering the longest period of daylight. ServeOhio is offering an opportunity for community service projects to be financed through a grant competition. The organization said projects, or a series of projects, can occur between June 1 through June 30.
The goal of the competition is to create or improve community assets, such as parks, schools, senior centers, community gardens, low-income homes or other infrastructure through volunteers.
Grants can be used for educational events as well.
The funds will be awarded in grants ranging from $250 to $1,000; depending on the amounts requested, ServeOhio expects to award between five and 10 grants. There’s matching requirement for the grants and the money can be used toward volunteer support, supplies and materials. The supplies can include small equipment, useful life of two years or more, up to $100 unit cost.
Money is to mostly go toward the project, or projects, so only 20% of the total request should be allocated to volunteer support costs. The money cannot be used for staffing, travel costs, gift cards, awards or grantee administration/overhead costs.
Public and nonprofit organizations, such as volunteer centers, school districts, community colleges, local governments and universities, can apply for the funding. The form must be completed, signed and submitted by Tuesday, March 25 by 11:59 p.m.
Applicants will be notified of funding decisions by April 11.
