TEXAS — Texas cities are opening their overnight shelters because of the upcoming cold weather.

Extreme cold poses a serious risk to people, animals and pets outside. The cold snap is expected to persist until Thursday, with milder conditions anticipated beginning Friday and lasting into next Saturday.

Austin

Cold weather shelters are opening Tuesday evening. Register for overnight shelter at One Texas Center (OTC), 505 Barton Springs Road, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Dallas

Arlington will have an overnight shelter available at 712 W. Abram St. Intake will be from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. 

The Salvation Army will open numerous shelters across the metroplex on Wednesday and Thursday at the Carr P. Collins Social Service Center (5302 Harry Hines Blvd.), the Denton Corps Community Center (1508 E. McKinney St.), the Garland Corps Community Center (451 West Avenue D), the Arlington Corps Community Center (712 W. Abram St.), the Mabee Social Service Center (1855 E. Lancaster Ave.) and the Lewisville Corps Community Center (880 Fox Ave.).

San Antonio

Warming shelters are open throughout San Antonio.

City libraries, senior centers and community centers are open during normal hours to provide warmth to residents in need. The city may extend resilience hub hours if the weather turns hazardous.
