AKRON, Ohio — Akron Public Schools Forest Hill CLC went into a “precautionary lockdown” Tuesday after reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in the area, according to a district press release.

The district stressed that no agents entered the school.

“APS has established clear procedures to guide staff interactions with law enforcement, prioritizing all student safety, privacy and well-being,” the release reads. “These procedures emphasize maintaining a calm and professional environment, protecting student information, adhering to established protocols, supporting displaced students, and connecting families with community resources.”

The district says that, during this lockdown, classroom education continued, though doors were secured until the lockdown lifted.

APS said it will continue to “review and update its immigration policies in accordance with federal and state directives.”

The district said it is committed to addressing its families’ concerns amid recent directives. They say they have policies in place to restrict facility access “to protect the educational environment.”
