BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio — Many are still cleaning up the mess from the storm earlier this week, but plow drivers have been getting ready all day to face what’s ahead.

What You Need To Know

  • With piles of snow still left behind from the last storm, plow crews are trying to make room where they can for more snow

  • Crews say they're using parking lots to push in extra snow and make room for the snow on the way

  • They say they're also putting down salt but it doesn't work as well with temperatures this cold

After facing challenges, truck break downs, blinding snow and working around the clock during a historic winter storm earlier this week, plow drivers are back on the clock and ready to work overtime to go up against round two of the snow storm.

At the Butler County Engineer’s Office in Hamilton, plow drivers have gone through tons of salt but still have another dome on hand for this winter storm that they plan to use if needed.

They topped off their trucks Friday morning and have been checking for trouble spots and places to put more snow build up. The storm earlier this week left little to no room for anything else.

County crews said they’ve been using parking lots to make room for more snow on the way.

They’re also planning to lay down some of that salt on the icy patches, but there’s another challenge. When it’s this cold, the salt doesn’t always work right away.

"Salt is really only effective with air temperature and pavement temperatures of 15 degrees and rising," said Scott Bressler, operations deputy for the Butler County Engineer's Office. "It needs sun. It needs traffic to drive on it. It needs the liquids to work."

Crews say they’re also using a beet juice mix on the roads that’s a little bit stronger than the salt to keep roads clear, but they say there is something you can do to help them get the roads clear faster.

Plow drivers say don’t to park in the road on your street to make it easier for the plows to get around and so you won’t get snowed in during this storm.
