OHIO — Aid is heading to California for the severe wildfires from the humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization Matthew 25: Ministries.
The organization is responding to the Palisades, Eaton and Hurst fires, which ignited Tuesday afternoon and were fueled by fierce winds exceeding 80 mph.
More than 25,000 acres have been burned by the fires, which have caused at least five fatalities. Thousands of structures in California have been destroyed, more than 100,000 people have been forced to evacuate and more than 300,000 are without power because of the fires.
There are more than 7,500 firefighters who have been deployed to fight the evolving fires.
Matthew 25: Ministries is connecting to partners in the area to ship essential supplies to communities affected by the fires.
“The devastation caused by these wildfires is truly heartbreaking,” said Tim Mettey, CEO of Matthew 25: Ministries, in a news release. “Entire communities have been upended, and countless lives will be forever changed. Our mission is to bring hope in the face of unimaginable loss. We are working with our partners to deliver life-sustaining supplies and offer hope and support to those who need it most during this incredibly challenging time.”
The organization is requesting monetary donations to help with relief and recovery, and product donations to supplement supplies, restock during response and for future natural disasters.
Donations can be made online, or checks can be mailed to Matthew 25: Ministries, 11060 Kenwood Rd, Blue Ash, OH 45242. Matthew 25 said all funds designated for the Greater Los Angeles wildfires will be used toward those recovery efforts.
