COLUMBUS, Ohio — Lassi Lappalainen, a free agent who played for six seasons with CF Montréal, has been signed by the Columbus Crew, according to a press release from the team.
The Finnish midfielder has been signed for 2025 and has an option for the 2026 season.
“Lassi’s ability to play multiple positions makes him a valuable addition to our group,” Crew General Manager Issa Tall said in the release. “Lassi brings with him a wealth of experience and familiarity with the demands of our style of play, and we look forward to integrating him into our squad when preseason gets underway next week.”
Lappalainen had been on loan to CF Montréal from Bologna FC 1909 in 2019. While with Montréal, the release states he was in nine Canadian Championship matches.
He has also played HJK Helsinki of the Veikkausliiga and Rovaniemen Palloseura.
“At the international level, Lappalainen has earned nine caps for the Finnish Men’s National Team, recording two assists,” the release reads. “He made his senior national team debut on Jan. 11, 2019, in a friendly against Estonia.”
