COLUMBUS, Ohio — Everyday heroes are often the ones that go unnoticed.

What You Need To Know

  • Michael Taylor is a Columbus tow truck driver who enjoys helping Ohioans on the road during the winter season

  • Monday, Taylor recovered a car that spun out and landed in a ditch on the side of the road on I-270

  • Taylor believes people take tow truck drivers for granted and overlook them

Michael Taylor has been a tow truck driver for nine years and says this job is rewarding every day.

“It feels good to be able to be the first that they call for help to be able to get them to their destination safely,” said Taylor.

Taylor says it’s a job that’s often taken for granted and overlooked.

“Most people see it’s an everyday concept thing and there’s so many trucks out here, so they think it’s someone that’s not needed,” said Taylor.

But during winter days like this, he could tow up a dozen cars a day on the side of the road.

“This season it gets from anywhere from 2 to 3 to 10 to 12 a day, depending on how severe the weather is,” said Taylor.

Taylor towed a car that spun out and landed in a ditch on the side of Interstate 270. The pulling, hooking and the constant back and forth between the car and his tow truck makes this job anything but easy.

“The bank tries to slide down constantly. I’m on slippery ground, so it tries to pull me,” said Taylor.

After thirty minutes of exhausting work, Taylor completed one of many jobs he will complete not just today but this entire winter season.
