OHIO — A major winter storm has extended the winter break for many Ohio kids.

What You Need To Know

  • Some counties overnight like Franklin County have been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning

  • Many schools are closed, OSU main campus has canceled in-person classes

  • Icing is possible south of I-70 through 3 p.m.
  • Blowing and drifting snow is possible with gusts up to 35 mph

Heavy snow hit Cincinnati first Sunday afternoon and evening with a record 8.4 inches of snow.

More heavy bands of snow have moved north and east late evening and overnight leading to many school cancellations even at the college level.

Ohio State's main campus in Columbus has canceled in-person classes, something they rarely do.

We will pick up additional snowfall today.

1-3 inches of snow north of I-70 and 2-3 inches south of I-70 as some additional heavy to moderate bands work through.

We have winter storm warnings through midnight Tuesday because it will take a long time for road conditions to improve.

Two issues that will make it more difficult for road crews will be the winds gusting up to 35 mph and some light icing from sleet or freezing rain.

This light icing will happen near the Ohio river through 3 p.m. Monday but may extend as far north as I-70.

Lake-effect snow will kick in for northwest Ohio Monday morning but move east into the first and second snowbelts this evening.

1-3 inches of snow is possible there with very cold wind chills everywhere.

Our storm system will move on by this evening but allow road crews to work through the night, there will be a big improvement Tuesday when we see some sunshine in central and southern Ohio.

Lake-effect snow will be on and off through early Thursday in the northeast.

The coldest wind chills will be on Wednesday and Thursday near or below zero.
