OHIO — The break from lake-effect snow is too short as we prepare for a strong cold front to usher in sub-zero wind chills and turn on the lake-effect snow machine again.

What You Need To Know

  • Arctic air spills in overnight dropping wind chills into single digits or even below zero

  • Moderate to heavy bands of snow overnight will lead to travel delays

  • Visibility may drop to ¼ or less in heavier bands through Thursday
  • Ashtabula county will have lake-effect snow warning until 1 a.m. Saturday

Moderate to heavy bursts of snow are possible in northwest and northeast Ohio late Wednesday night into early Thursday.

Snowfall amounts in northwest Ohio will be around 1-2" in spots so a slower commute is possible.

Blowing and drifting snow is going to be an issue for road crews and drivers.

Visibility may drop to ¼ mile or less at  times throughout Thursday in the Snowbelt.

These bands look very persistent through early Friday getting enhanced by not just Lake Erie but: Lake Huron, Lake Superior and even Saginaw Bay and Lake St. Clair.

Snow squalls are possible into early Thursday so this may make travel almost impossible at times.

Wind chills will be another issue statewide.

Subzero or single digits is what it will feel like Thursday morning and wind chills will likely stay in the teens for most of the day.

Snow totals for parts of Lake, Ashtabula, Cuyahoga and Geauga counties look like 6-12" by early Friday. We could see some more structural damage from the weight of additional heavy snowfall.

Friday morning, most of the counties under the lake-effect snow warning will see a break, but Ashtabula County could see some lingering bands through early Saturday morning.

The weekend will be warmer with rain on the way for Monday. Rain and melting snow may lead to some flooding issues early next week.
