CLEVELAND — Officials are preparing for snowfall and declaring a snow emergency parking ban for Cleveland ahead of more forecasted snow.

The ban begins at 12 a.m. through 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5 and was called for by Assistant Director of Public Safety for the City of Cleveland Nicole A. Carlton.

Stopping, standing and parking of vehicles will be prohibited on all city streets with posted red and white signs. Throughout the emergency, parking on these streets is prohibited.

"Parking is prohibited on designated Snow Emergency streets, which are identified as necessary for transportation, the movement of food and fuel supplies, medical care, fire, health and police protection and other vital facilities of the City," the city said in a news release. "Significant snowfall can cause streets to become congested and impassable."

In similar fashion, city hall will delay its opening on Thursday in anticipation of the weather. It will open to the public at 10 a.m.

The city said vehicles left parked can prevent plows from clearing streets and result in bottlenecks and gridlock, which can hamper emergency vehicle responses. Vehicles in violation are subject to citation and towing.
