OHIO — An Amber Alert for a 7-year-old girl from Empire, Ohio was canceled late Monday night before the suspect was killed in an officer involved shooting.
Oaklynn Alexander was safely recovered and reunited with family members without injury after the Brunswick Division of Police located her and her father, Charles Alexander, with the vehicle noted on the Amber Alert, a 26’ U-Haul with an Arizona license plate.
Brunswick police initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to stop.
Several jurisdictions pursued the vehicle on Interstate 71 toward Medina. Stop sticks were deployed to disable the vehicle, which continued southbound and exited on SR 18 in Medina Township.
Officers then attempted to negotiate with Alexander, who was armed according to officials. Alexander communicated with several dispatch centers via telephone when the vehicle came to a stop in a business parking lot.
Multiple gunshots were fired in an officer involved shooting which resulted in Alexander being declared dead on the scene. No officers were injured during the shooting.
Agencies who responded to the scene included Medina County Sheriff’s Office, Medina Township Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Brunswick Division of Police, Montville Police Department, U.S. Marshals, Medina Fire Department and the Cleveland Clinic Life Support Team.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Medina County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident.
