OHIO — Since late September, Ohio archery hunters have checked more than 48,000 deer so far as the archery season continues.

The statewide archery season began Sept. 28 and will end Feb. 2, 2025. Of the 48,321 deer checked so far, there were 23,311 antlered deer and 25,010 antlerless deer (includes does and button bucks), according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Over the last three years, the average number of deer checked during the first weekend of November is a little more than 50,000, ODNR said.

During the 2023-24 season, 105,158 of the 213,928 deer checked were taken with a bow, making it the first season for the number to top more than 100,000, according to ODNR.

The top 10 counties with the most deer harvested so far are as follows:

  • Coshocton (1,673)
  • Tuscarawas (1,514)
  • Ashtabula (1,490)
  • Knox (1,375)
  • Holmes (1,355)
  • Trumbull (1,353)
  • Licking (1,216)
  • Muskingum (1,119)
  • Richland (1,097)
  • Guernsey (1,039)
