OHIO — As October marks the beginning of Domestic Violence Awareness month, an Ohio organization released statistics that shows more than 100 people died last year as a result of domestic violence.


What You Need To Know

  • There were 114 deaths in 85 domestic violence cases in Ohio between July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024, according to the recent report from the Ohio Domestic Violence Network

  • That’s an increase from last year’s report, which said there were 112 fatalities in 82 cases

  •  39% of all victims who died were people of color.; that’s on trend with last year, which had 40% of victims who were people of color

There were 114 deaths in 85 domestic violence cases in Ohio between July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024, according to the recent report from the Ohio Domestic Violence Network.

That’s an increase from last year’s report, which said there were 112 fatalities in 82 cases.

This year's report states 79 of the deaths were victims and 35 were perpetrators.

The deaths also included:

  • 15 children and teens who were murdered by a parent or step-parent
  • Six teens who were killed by a boyfriend or ex-boyfriend (five of the killers were also teens)
  • Five pregnant women were murdered by the baby’s father

Additionally, 39% of all victims who died were people of color. That’s on trend with last year, which had 40% of victims who were people of color.

The youngest victim was 4 years old, whereas the oldest victim was 85 years old.
