COLUMBUS, Ohio — Leaving summer behind and transitioning to fall can always be a bit bittersweet.

You lose the warmth, the days spent on the water or laying out at the beach. But it’s not all bad. You trade that in for crisp air, pumpkin patches and, of course, the beautiful colors as the leaves begin to change.

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the rain Ohio has experienced lately will likely help with that color changing process.

“The recent rainy weather should help some with fall color here in Ohio,” ODNR Fall Color Forester David Parrott said in a press release. “For the best fall color, we need cooler nights and sunny days. The recent rain in Ohio, after a very dry summer, may benefit some of the late changers as they show their colorful displays within the next few weeks. The high winds we’ve experienced may have caused us to lose some leaves prematurely in areas hit by recent storms.”
