CLEVELAND — The City of Cleveland will be represented in the national conversation surrounding light-rail transit (LRT).

Casey Blaze, Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s (GCRTA) rail equipment manager, has been elected by the American Public Transportation Association to serve as secretary of the organization’s Light Rail Forum, according to a GCRTA press release.

“I am very pleased and excited about Mr. Blaze being nominated and elected as Secretary of the APTA Light Rail Technical Forum,” said India L. Birdsong Terry, GCRTA general manager and CEO, in the release. “He is a strong leader committed to delivering innovation and exceptional service to drive company success, and his professional experience and expertise on rail systems will be a great asset to this committee.”

According to the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, LRT “is rapid transit that operates electric-powered single cars or short trains on fixed rails.” They say the mode of transportation has become more popular in mid-size cities.

The release states that the forum is meant to grow this system of transportation as well as further increase public acceptance of it.

Blaze’s term as secretary will last until 2026.
